Who We Are

A non-profit bridging professional psychological support and the communities who need it most.

Mediated Learning is a registered South African NPO committed to improving the mental health and educational outcomes of disadvantaged communities — offering free counselling, therapy and educational psychology services, starting in the North West province.

Our Mission

Ensure that those who need support the most are never left behind.

Mediated Learning was founded in response to the urgent and growing demand for accessible mental health and psycho-educational supportin South Africa — particularly in rural villages, townships, informal settlements and farming communities where qualified psychologists and therapists are scarce, and public services are overstretched.

We recognise that mental health and education are deeply interconnected. Children and adults living with unaddressed emotional, psychological or learning difficulties face compounded barriers to achievement, well-being and dignity. Our holistic model combines individual and group counselling, trauma-informed therapy, educational psychology assessments, and family-centred outreach — all delivered free of charge to those who need it.

Guided by Reuven Feuerstein's theory of mediated learning experience and the SIAS policy framework, we walk multi-year journeys with schools, families and community leaders to break intergenerational cycles of trauma, reduce stigma, and restore the opportunity for every child to thrive.

Mission in Action

Every photograph reflects a real commitment: to notice, to support, and to transform the spaces where children learn and grow.

  • A classroom of smiling South African learners in green uniforms with open books on wooden desks, warm afternoon light streaming through the windows
Learning environments where every child feels seen and supported.
  • A warm South African facilitator laughing with a smiling child while they draw together with colourful crayons on the floor
One-on-one creative support that builds confidence and connection.
  • A bright classroom wall covered with children's artwork behind learners engaged in class activities
Classroom walls that celebrate each learner's voice and potential.

Our Vision

A South Africa where every child — regardless of ability, background or postcode — learns in a classroom designed to include them. We are working towards a North West province in which inclusive education is not an exception, but the baseline standard of practice.

Our Approach

We combine three things government alone cannot easily provide: deep classroom proximity, international cognitive-modifiability research, and the patience to walk multi-year journeys with schools. The result is sustainable change — not parachuted projects.

What We Stand For

Six values that shape every programme we deliver.

Dignity First

Every learner, educator and family we work with is met with respect — barriers are systemic, not personal.

Evidence-Based Practice

Our interventions are grounded in the SIAS framework, Feuerstein's mediated learning theory and continuous research.

Community Partnership

We co-design solutions with SBSTs, DBSTs, parents and community leaders — never for them, always with them.

Creative Innovation

We test, iterate and share differentiated tools so classrooms can respond to the full diversity of learners.

Accountability

Transparent governance, POPIA-aligned data practice and public reporting on every rand and every outcome.

Lifelong Learning

We invest in the people who teach — because a confident, supported educator changes generations.

Our Impact

Measurable change across the North West province.

Where We Work

Anchored in the North West. Reaching beyond.

Our head office sits in Mahikeng, the provincial capital. From there our field teams service public schools across all four education districts — including the rural and farming communities where access to specialist support has historically been thinnest.

We are increasingly invited to share our methodology in neighbouring provinces and at national policy forums, but the North West remains the heart of our practice.
